Thank you for your interest in the ITN Registry of Tolerant Kidney Transplant Recipients.
For kidney transplant recipients, anti-rejection drugs known as immunosuppressive agents are the lifeline that sustain the health of their transplanted organ. In cases where patients stop taking these medications, the result is almost always the rejection of the transplant in a short period of time. However, there are some very rare individuals who, remarkably, discontinue their immunosuppression and yet fail to reject their transplant.
The ITN Registry is seeking to identify and study these rare patients. The investigators of this study believe that these rare, "naturally" tolerant individuals, will help us better understand how immune tolerance is created and maintained, providing new clues to organ transplantation without immunosuppression.
